Croatia continues....

After spending a fantastic day in the national park we caught a bus to Split, which is a cool town on the coast. There was a bit of drama with the hostel, who had stuffed up our booking and put us in two different dorm rooms instead of one all together, but it was only one night so whatever really!

Split is very laid back, lots of markets and restaurants and the Diocletian's Palace, built by the Roman emperor Diocletian in the 4th century AD. We stopped and shopped and ate and explored. They also give you free shots of grappa with every cup of coffee, which is pretty difficult to stomach at 10am in the morning.

In the afternoon we went to the modern art gallery, which has some interesting paintings, sculptures and drawings all by Croatian artists.

It was then time to catch the ferry over to Hvar, pronounced Hwahhh, a large island in the picture perfect Adriatic sea. The guy from the hostel picked us up from the ferry and took us to an apartment. I already knew I was going to love this place!

For dinner we went to an awesome restaurant in a terrace garden and had fresh seafood pasta (mine was called 'Drunk Salmon', probably appropriate).

After dinner we went to Kiva Bar, the happening place on Hvar, which played a delightful soundtrack of Michael Jackson, Natalia Imbruglia and The Divinyls...

The next day we enjoyed a nice sleep in before hitting the (pebble) beach! The water was perfectly clear and extremely refreshing. We didn't move all day, given the handy beachside restaurant.

After a short walk through town in the late afternoon we cooked up a delicious dinner at the apartment and ate watching the sunset.

That night the main club on Hvar, Carpe Diem, decided to host a 'Full Moon Party' on another island nearby. Thailand eat your heart out! The venue was amazing and we were shuttled over on taxi boats.

This adventure resulted in us having a very big sleep in and spending the day drinking ice coffee and napping next to the water.

In the late afternoon we walked up the hill to the huge old fortress and walked around inside the walls to get a beautiful view over the whole island.

We had another delicious seafood dinner and then walked home past my favourite house for an early night, as the next day was to be a huge day of travels.

It was then time to say goodbye to Hvar and head for Dubrovnik, where we are now! It's a truly beautiful country!
